My 8 Favorite Treats.

I believe in moderation which includes enjoying some of the sweeter indulgences of life. People are often shocked to see me eating a cookie or ice cream as if I was supposed to only be eating meat and vegetables… I wanted to share some of my favorite “treats” in the spirit of the season and also just to show that I enjoy things many others do too…

#8 Chocolate Chip Cookies
The more chewy the better, I still have fond memories of my parents buying this for me at Mrs. Fields when they’d take me to the mall.

#7 Cookie Dough Ice Cream
I don’t have a favorite ice cream shop specifically but when I go this is generally the flavor I’m looking for, otherwise it’s usually just vanilla bean.

#6 Mochi
Whether it’s filled with red bean or ice cream I’m a fan.

#5 Mango and Sticky Rice
A common dessert at Thai restaurants, I cherish this combination when it’s in season. A good restaurant will kindly remind me when Mango is not in season and not offer it.

#4 Boba
I love these Asian drinks with pearls and grass jelly, my favorite tea spot is the Ten Ren location in my hometown Milpitas which I haven’t found anyone else coming close to. I usually get the non-caffeinated Chrysanthemum tea with no added sugar or honey.

#3 Almond Croissants
Not sure when I fell in love with these but a popular neighborhood spot in the Richmond is the Arsicault Bakery where I haven’t found anyone else coming close to.

#2 Pineapple Buns
I grew up loving these Chinese pastries with the lava like yellow topping and discovered the best bakery in the city for them out in the Sunset which is appropriately called The Pineapple King Bakery which makes a variety beyond the classic including matcha, taro and red bean. They are a hit to bring over to someone’s home!

#1 Pumpkin Pie
My Mom makes the best one using bananas and a graham cracker crust but Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s also make a decent one. I would probably go as far as having this in place of a traditional wedding cake. I love pumpkin so much I enjoy the canned pumpkin mixed in my morning oats.

I will end with one more reminder on moderation. Am I eating these on a daily basis? Of course not. But I am human and appreciate some treats every now and then!
